On Thursday, May 18, 2023 a small group of us met and prayed for God’s guidance to start new church and find a facility. We were starting with nothing but our faith. By the close of the meeting, the thirteen of us agreed we would pursue creating a Global Methodist Church in Elgin, Texas. We discussed what would be needed and when we could begin meeting. We had had people with musical talent to lead us and a member willing to give a devotion. On Friday, after securing the use of a church fellowship hall, we sent emails to family and friends that were of our same heart, inviting them to attend a worship service.
On the evening of Sunday, May 21, we held a worship service in the fellowship hall of a small Lutheran congregation in Lund. We were very blessed to have 57 people in worship, singing out praise songs, filled with joy to be together, firm in our beliefs, and filled with the Holy Spirit. The offering for a donation for use of the fellowship hall took in four times what was needed, and provided the start-up funds for our new church.
The small Lutheran congregation was very willing to let us continue to meet Saturday evenings. Three months later, we have met with the council of the Lutheran church. They have been very gracious, offering to move their worship service up to an earlier time so we could begin to worship in their sanctuary at 11 am Sunday mornings! A retired pastor has agreed to be our interim pastor.
On July 30, 2023 we held a Congregational Meeting, voting 92.75% to affiliate with the Global Methodist Church. Since we began in mid-May, we have had as many as 82 at worship. We are growing and know God is at work in Elgin Methodist Church’s congregation. We have been very blessed.
